Born
in North Carolina, LaChapelle studied at the Art Student's League and
School of Visual Arts. He began his photography career by creating fine
art images for Interview Magazine and has evolved his photography into
an idiosyncratic and highly personal combination of reportage and
surrealism. Awarded Best New Photographer of the Year by both French
Photo Magazine and American Photo Magazine in 1995, he also was named
1996 Photographer of the Year at the VH-1 Fashion Awards, and more
recently received the International Center of Photography's Applied
Photography Award.
Widely published
in fashion, music and entertainment magazines, he also shoots print and
television for prestigious clients such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Giorgio
Armani, MTV, Pepsi, Levis and Diesel With two coffee table books to his
name, LaChapelle Land and Hotel Lachapelle, Lachapelle is one of
photography's brightest stars, bringing high intensity, larger than
life images to the pages of magazines worldwide.
